Success Comes From Within

Success comes from within… not from the outside…

I hear of so many people wanting to quit programs because their sponsor is not there for them, or is no longer with the program.

Let me give you a clue, folks. Your sponsor is not responsible for your success. Your chosen program is not responsible for your success. You, and YOU alone are responsible for your success.

Being an Entrepreneur is about taking the lead and leading, not following. Leaders gather their resources and then they take action. They don’t need anyone to tell them what to do, when to do it, or how to do it – they just do it. Their bosses used to tell them what to do. As an Entrepreneur, you are your own boss – you give the directions to yourself now.

Success is a mindset. Just as failure is a mindset. You have to have a successful mindset in order to be successful. If you have a failure mindset, then no matter what you do, you will be destined to fail.

Our brains are like a programmable mechanism. What you feed it, determines the outcome from it. If you program yourself with thoughts of “I’m not worthy”, “I don’t deserve it”, “I can’t do this”, “I’ll never get this right”, “I’ll never be as successful as so and so”, or anything of the like, then situations will present themselves to prove you right. And vice versa – if you program yourself with thoughts of “I am successful”, “I am worthy”, “I am deserving”, “I can do this”, then situations will present themselves to prove you right.

You have to decide to be successful. You have to decide that you are worth it and deserve it. You have to decide that you can and will do it. You have to decide to be more successful than you’ve ever been before.

One thing you can do, is stop comparing yourself to others. Because, let me tell you, you will never measure up to someone else. But, guess what? You’re not supposed to. You are YOU. You are not like others, and others are not like you. We are all individuals and we should treat ourselves as such.

I understand that there is a lot of competition out there and that we have had it beat in our brains since birth that we need to be better than someone else. But in all reality, the only one we are in competition with is ourselves. If we can just be better than ourselves each day than we were the day before, that’s what it’s all about.

We have to stop looking to outside sources to “make” us a success. Success is all about you and what you want. Not what your parents want, not what your co-workers want, not what your neighbors want, but what YOU want.

If YOU want to be a success, look within yourself and ask yourself if that is what you truly want. Do you really want that success? Are you ready for success? Are you comfortable with success? Do you really want to be an Entrepreneur, your own boss? Are you really comfortable making the kind of money you envision making? Are you ready to change your mindset – everything that you have known so far to be “true”? I know it can be done. Do you?

It’s all up to you. You just have to decide that you want it and then do it. Believe in yourself and you’ll fly high. You can be a success if you choose to be. Success comes from within, it starts with you, and it ends with you.

Folks…  Laziness and Procrastination are your evil enemies!  Don’t let them stop you!

Now… It’s late… it’s quarter to one in the morning. I should be tired and dragging after my long day and just wanting to crawl into bed. But… Someone reminded me that this morning is a GREAT morning! It’s the best morning of my life, because I CHOOSE to make it so.

Earlier, I had thoughts of just chucking it all, vegging out, and going back to a boring life with no hope of prosperity. But then I got to thinking. Laziness and Procrastination just do not suit me anymore. In my old life, yes they did. I was the queen of lazy and what I could put off for another day, I would.

But seriously, folks… Where in the heck does that ever get you? Is that really all you want out of life? Is that as good as it gets? NO!!!

If you would just get off your lazy butt and tell that stupid voice sitting on your shoulder to just pipe down and shut the heck up… You might… You just might… GET SOMEWHERE!

I have a voice! And my voice deserves to be heard! I have a cause in my heart and something worth fighting for. And that, folks, feels great! And I’m telling that laziness and that procrastination to move over, there’s a new Sheriff in town! And that’s my pure will and determination to make a better life, to be someone important, to love myself, and to love my life! I’m going to get up each morning and make a difference! I’m going to go to bed each night knowing I’ve made that difference, that I’ve helped someone!

If it is to be, it’s up to me! And I am up for the challenge! Who’s With Me?!?! Who’s ready to no longer be lazy? Who’s ready to take action now instead of putting it off until later? Come on! You can do it! You may think, “But I’m just one voice, how can I make a difference?”. Well, that’s true, but do you realize the impact of your voice on any given stranger at any given time? How what you say may make a lasting impact on someone? Even a smile goes a long, long way… And together… Together we can make a difference!

Just say no to Laziness and Procrastination! Embrace your new life filled with possibilities and opportunities!

We Live In A World Of Change

We live in a world of Change. Think back… once upon a time there were 8-tracks, then records, then cassette tapes, then CD’s, now downloadable MP3′s… Most teenagers nowadays wonder why CD’s are sometimes still referred to as “Albums”. Think back to when the first color TV came out that only had 4 stations… or phones that had dials that you had to poke your fingers through to dial, heck even further back to when you just picked up the receiver and told the operator who you wanted to call and there were things they called “party lines” and then there were touch tone phones and now we’ve evolved into having mobile cell phones.

Change is inevitable and is all around us. Change is inescapable. It all boils down to… how you handle changes.

Now… stay in the 3% Leader space with me here a few moments.

I’ve developed an acute awareness of change. You can be a 97%’er in how you face it or you can be a 3%’er. But let me tell ya, folks… 97%’ers are people who are resistant to change. I’ve asked myself at times “I’m not immune to it, why am I resistant to change?” And really, it’s quite simple. I’ve even asked myself “Is it in my genes?” Well… actually…. That is the perfect explanation.

Every human being is genetically programed to resist change and maintain a state of equilibrium. The condition is known as Homeostasis. It’s evolved naturally over time as a means by which our ancestors could survive constantly changing conditions. And when an environment change occurs in our own lives, our internal mechanisms jump into play to regulate the new influence and return our body to, what biologists call, a steady state. Essentially, the condition of equilibrium we call Homeostasis, developed from our need of stability and security.

Now… Here’s the problem. The problem is that the mechanism works to keep things as they are… EVEN when more favorable possibilities exist. It doesn’t distinguish between change that would make life better and change that would make things worse. It simply resists any and all change.

Now, again, stay with me in the 3% perspective here…

I’ve come to understand that this is part of our sub-conscious. Remember, our sub-conscious mind is WAY more powerful than our conscious mind. It’s on auto-pilot. That’s why we talk about why affirmations are such a vital component to reprogramming ourselves. When we repeat something over and over again, even if we don’t believe it at first, you don’t believe it, you eventually DO believe it, physically you believe it.

Here’s another example of your sub-conscious mind not knowing the difference between truth and fiction… Chances are, if you have watched the movie “Old Yeller”, and you have a pulse, at the end of the movie you teared up. Now… Your conscious mind KNOWS that the movie is just a story, it’s fictitious, BUT your sub-conscious mind does NOT know that, and that’s why you teared up.

The point here is this. Genetically, we have this condition, Homeostasis, and the mechanism is designed to keep things as they are even when more favorable possibilities exist. So… has every single one of us been genetically designed to resist change? The answer, simply put, is YES. That’s why people have such a hard time breaking out of their regions of security, they find it hard to adapt new habits, learn a new skill, or cultivate a new skill. The GOOD news is… a Homeostat CAN be re-set and change can be embraced. Now… Here’s the bad news… sometimes, re-setting process we go through, often times, brings stress, it brings pain, and it brings a certain amount of fear with it too.

Let’s break this down a little bit more. Do you enjoy moving? Really? I mean REALLY enjoy moving? Now, it could be next door or it could be across the globe. To use some colloquial language here, moving BITES! Why? It’s kind of simple to understand now, isn’t it? That re-setting process brings a certain level of stress and pain and sometimes even a bit of fear. It’s change.

But never forget. 3% Leaders know the secret. See… We understand that the lesson, and/or to alleviate that said stress and anxiety, we continually remind ourselves and the people around us WHY the change is required and we stay connected to the many many BENEFITS that will result from it.

3% Leaders openly share that change will bring us all that much closer to the compelling cause we are all striving towards. 3% Leaders show ourselves and others how the change will ultimately improve their lives and allow them to be more effective, and ultimately that example makes people aware of how the change will help them, not only help themselves, but help them serve others and help make a much, much deeper contribution.

I want you to master change. I want to help you master change by giving you the knowledge to change.

There is a Law of Nature called the Law of Environment. A seed grows into a plant only when the soil and the moisture, and the temperature are favorable. In other words, the environment must be ideal.

To manage change effectively though, as a visionary leader, you must provide the ideal culture in which people can respond positively to change and grow in the process. What kind of culture would that be? You must create a learning culture. You must champion intellectual development. No new skills equals no new money. You must foster a workplace, an environment, around you that rewards constant learning and skills improvement. The best way to combat the fear and strain that change invokes is to become knowledgeable about it. The best antidote for fear is knowledge. Don’t get lazy about learning. Stay competitive in this new area. You must let everyone know you’ve got to continually be learning. Because, ultimately, that inspires new ideas, new information, and remember, it boils down to this… He or she who learns the most, wins.

Simply put, 3% Leaders are Learners and EMBRACE the change. There is JOY in change. Without change, there can be no growth. And without change, there can be no improvement. And without change, there can be no progress. Understand… This is the Way of the World. Change is ESSENTIAL to our Evolution as a Civilization and it’s necessary to our very SURVIVAL. Change is Humanity’s Best Friend.

97%’ers fight it. 3% Leaders DELIGHT in it. Embrace the change! Understand there is JOY in it. That’s why I’m here for you to learn from. Be that 3% Leader today. Embrace a new skill today. Play FULL OUT and watch what happens.

Until next time…

3% Leaders are strong in three areas – Strength of Self Mastery, Strength of Action, and Strength of Relationships.

Some people may be strong in one or two areas, but weak in the others. Success in Leadership takes mastering the total package, the combination of all three. Heighten your awareness in each of the categories to assist you in the process of mastering all three.

It is no coincidence that number one is Self Mastery. Unless you can master your self, what else can you hope to master? The Genesis of Self Mastery is knowing who you ARE. Now who you’ve been up to this point. Too often we define ourselves by our past. Don’t spend wasteful time dwelling on your past. You are not a victim of your past. Begin defining yourself as who you are BECOMING. That is who you are. Not what you’ve done in the past or what you’ve accomplished.

The common denominator between successful proven leaders is that we all deserve to embrace into the cellular structure of who we are – the simple concept of Personal Responsibility. Personal Responsibility is the first Decision of Success – The Buck Stops With Me. Complete ownership of everything in your life, not just your career, will enhance your business, your enterprise, and your life.

At the start of Strength of Self Mastery, we discussed proper goal setting. Don’t make it more complicated than it really is. What is it What is that one thing in your life that when you’re backed up into the corner, that you say no more, turn around, and you’ve got that look in your eye, I don’t care if you’ve got foam coming out of your mouth, you go, this is my goal, I dare you to stop me. That is a real goal. It’s not a wish. It’s not a want. It’s going to happen.

Stick To Your Mission! These are 4 very important words. Write them on your whiteboard, or on a piece of paper and stick it to your computer, your fridge, your bathroom mirror. Wherever you will see it constantly throughout your day. Stick To Your Mission!

There is an old ancient adage. If you want to beat someone, distract them. Many things throughout your day will be masqueraded as opportunities. These opportunities will present themselves because of a particular talent that you possess. Maybe it’s because somebody will find something in you that at least you will listen to them. Be clear that distractions are anything that gets between you and your goal. (Such as sleep! lol Just kidding!)

What is your mission? Can you define it in just one or two sentences? Can you list opportunities in your path that are really distractions? Are you going to allow yourself to get distracted? Distractions could be phone calls, or e-mails, or any number of things that keep you from doing the things that will move you forward.

Plan your day before it plans you! None of us have arrived, because we let distractions get in our way. Find things in your day that will move you forward and Stick To Your Mission!

Learn to master each of the three strengths of the proven leaders: Strength of Self Mastery, Strength of Action, and Strength of Relationships.

One of the five things that Leaders do every day is visualize their Goals.

A lot of people may have problems with Goal setting. But folks, let me tell you… If you don’t know exactly what you want, you are cheating yourself. It can also be said that if you don’t know where you are going how will you know if you get there? Don’t let yourself float through life – have a plan – have goals – get that mental map of where you are going. Know what you want in life and go after it!

When asked what your goals are, do you say get out of debt? Really? That’s what you want? You want to get to zero??? Come on! Think bigger! What is it that you REALLY want? (Oh, and instead of saying get out of debt, try rephrasing it to taking care of your OBLIGATIONS – it’s amazing at what some simple vocabulary changes can do to the energy around your thoughts) But seriously, play a bigger game than that. Go for what you really want and you’ll take care of all of that in the wake.

A friend shared with me, that a leader in his life grilled him on what he wanted, what he really wanted. Finally, he got so ticked off that he was backed into a corner, that he got a moment of clarity, complete authenticity, full self-expression, and he said “You want to know what I want? I’ll tell you what I want! I want my kids to wake me up in the morning, not from the alarm clock, I want them to wake me up in the morning, and I want to have breakfast with them, I want to make their lunch, I want to sit at a table, I want to have a bowl of Cheerios with them, I want to have my wife, I want us all to be in our pajamas, I want us to be together as a family, I want to be the primary influence in their life. You want to challenge me on that? That’s what I want! Now back off!” He said he could hear his mentor smile on the other end of the line and his mentor said to him “Don’t ever forget that. We finally got to what you really want.”

It’s not about the money, it’s about what the money will get you. Money is just ink on paper. Think about what you will do with that money, how you will feel, what you are like, what you do with your day. Feel it. Visualize it. Take it all in. Make it so crystal clear in your mind that you could paint it on a canvas.

Is it a goal where you finally just turn around, your back is to the corner, and you just turn around and you’ve got that look in your eye, and you’re saying to yourself and the rest of the world, “This is what I want! Nobody’s going to stop me from getting it. It’s a goal worth dying for. Somebody just TRY and stop me!”?

The leaders in your life are here and looking to help you achieve that goal. Resources are here to help you accomplish what you want in life. What are you willing to fight for? Are you willing to do whatever it takes? Will you persist without exception? Do you want it bad enough?

Folks… don’t compromise on your goals. I want you to sit down, right now, and really think. What is it that you REALLY want. Not the mundane things (like material items – houses, cars, and doo-dads), but deep down, what is your ultimate goal in life? What do you want your life to be like? Who do you want to be? What do you want to do?

Think of your goal. Think of the person that you are having accomplished that goal. See it, feel it, hear it, touch it. Use all of your senses. Make that goal so crystal clear it’s like a movie in your mind. Make it so crystal clear that you could paint it on a canvas. Visualize that goal as you wake up in the morning, before you go to sleep at night, and as many times in between as you can. Strive with all your might to achieve that goal. Use the resources that you have around you. Talk to other people who have achieved similar goals and find out what they did every day to accomplish that goal. Fight for that goal. Go after it with everything in you. You deserve it! You are worth it!

Until next time…

If you want to be a 3% Leader, you must separate yourself from the rest of the herd. Bring that special something something to the game.

3% Leaders see every situation in terms of available resources – materials, technology, and most importantly, people. People are your greatest asset. What separates the 3% Leaders from the rest of the herd is the way that they see the available resources and what they DO with the resources.

If you want to be in the game to win, you can’t just expect to show up and win, you have to use the resources available to you and set yourself up to win. It may be a long grueling “season”, but if you stack the odds in your favor, you WILL get your “win”.

Dallas Braden, a virtually unknown Oakland A’s major league pitcher, pitched the 19th Perfect Game in the history of Major League Baseball on Sunday, May 9, 2010. When asked how he could go from unknown to pitching the perfect game, he said he always showed up to pitch a no-hitter, the perfect game.

Showing up is a large part, but showing up to win is even bigger. You have to visualize that “perfect pitch”.

Napoleon Hill said in his book, Think & Grow Rich, that anything man can conceive, he can achieve. We all have the ability as entrepreneurs to conceive and achieve the impossible. You just need to use all the tools you have, all the resources you have, and bring your greatest game every time.

So, show up, use your team, and keep throwing. Plug in and create it for yourself.

Our Austrees – A Lesson In Growth

In November of 2008, the end of the growing season, my Husband’s Mom and Step-Dad brought with them from Idaho, 2 little starts of some of their Austrees. Austrees are a very fast growing hardy tree, a hybrid of the Willow. I remember fondly the Weeping Willow tree we had in our backyard growing up. It was huge and originated from just three little twigs from the corner neighbor’s tree. It grew to epic proportions, and we eventually had to chop it down after being damaged several times over the years in storms, and after way too many times of taking out the power lines (and once falling on the roof of the neighbor’s garage). I’ve always loved the Willow tree, so I was excited to see what these would be like. They have the shape of the leaves of the Willow, just not drooping like the Weeping Willow, and incredible speed of growth, which is great for a new backyard that desperately needs trees.

Left Austree This is the Austree on the left in our backyard. As I said, it was planted as just a little start. While it didn’t get much of a chance to do anything the first year it was planted because the growing season was over, it heartily made it up in last year’s season. This lil runt grew to 7 feet in that one season. It’s slightly smaller and weaker than its counterpart, but more full. Left Austree Closeup
Right Austree This is the Austree on the right in our backyard. This is the champion of champions. We had a little rabbit that ran through the yards, and it got hungry that first winter and chewed this start down to within an inch of the ground. We thought it was all over for that one. But, this little slugger proved us wrong. It started anew right behind that one inch lil stub and grew from nothing to 8 foot last growing season. Because we had put wire mesh screens and stakes around the trees to protect them from any little critters who would nibble on them in their fragile state while they were growing, this one got damaged in a wind storm by scraping against the top of the screen. So, it’s a little barren on it’s right side, but it’s coming back. Right Austree Closeup

These two Austrees have been champions of growth, showing that from little to nothing, something great can come of it. I’m so proud of my trees and am so excited to see what they do this season. My Father-In-Law thinks they will double in size this year. Wow! I can’t wait! I know already, I’ve seen around a half foot of growth on each tree and the trunks have gotten thicker.

These trees are definitely and inspiration.  If these trees can attain that much growth – from little to nothing, anyone can. It just takes the will to grow!

The Lightness of Being a Beginner Again

I didn’t see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life. — Steve Jobs

My Thoughts:

Being a beginner again sometimes gives you a fresh perspective to operate from.  It ignites your creativity.  Sometimes when we work for so long on something, it becomes routine and possibly boring and stale.  Starting anew gives you a clean slate to build on.  You may not be sure what you are going to create, but you have an idea of what you want to create… And from that, you can do anything that you put your heart and mind to.

So, if you have been in the same position for awhile and things are getting stagnant, try doing something different for awhile.  It may clear your mind so that when you are ready and go back to whatever it was, you’ll be able to begin anew and have a fresh perspective to give new inspiration to the project.

Finding A Path To Follow

When considering a path to follow, heed these words…

Do not follow because your friends follow…
Do not follow because the masses follow…
You have your own path to follow…
Follow only if the path rings true in your heart and soul…
