Cell Phone Unlimited Plan Review
Today I began researching options to upgrade my phone and plan. Boy did I get an education! I knew, based on my current call load, that I would need to upgrade to an unlimited plan, as I would go over most of the highest anytime minute plans out there.
Let me tell you, I found that Cell Phone plans are not created equal. What one company includes in their “unlimited” plan, may not be what the next company includes. Here’s a review of what I found.
Sprint, in my opinion, has the best unlimited plan. Their Simply EverythingSM plan is top notch. This plan includes:
- Unlimited talk: Unlimited anytime minutes, nationwide long distance and no roaming charges
- Unlimited data: Web surfing, email, BlackBerry Internet Services (BIS), GPS Navigation, Music Premier, TV Premier, NFL Mobile Live, NASCAR Sprint Cup MobileSM
- Unlimited Direct Connect: Direct Connect and Group Connect (for capable phones)
- Unlimited messaging: Text, pictures and video
So, not only does it include unlimited minutes, but data, GPS, and messaging as well. You get all that for one fee: $99.99 per month. Not so with the following Cell Phone companies, this is very disappointing.
Verizon has the next best plan, but it’s more expensive. For $139.99 per month you get:
- Unlimited calling with anyone on any network in the U.S.
- Unlimited Text, Picture, Video & Instant Messaging
- Mobile Email
- VCAST VPak (for hours of content streaming right to your phone anywhere within the V CAST Coverage Area and access to over 2 million songs to download.)
- VZ Navigator (for the power of a GPS navigation system on your phone.)
- Unlimited Mobile Web
Then comes T-Mobile and AT&T Wireless, which start off at $99.99 per month for the unlimited voice calls, but then start the extra charges for Data (which is required with certain phones), GPS, etc…
T-Mobile’s $99.99 unlimited plan covers:
- Unlimited Whenever Minutes®
- Unlimited domestic messages: Text, picture, video, and IM
With T-Mobile, if you want Data, it can cost up to $34.99 per month extra, based on the phone you select. I did not see any packages for GPS. So, I’m unsure if that would be an additional charge or not.
And last, comes AT&T, who loves to pile on the charges. AT&T’s $99.99 per month unlimited plan covers:
- Unlimited Anytime Minutes
If you want Data, expect to pay as much as $30.00 per month (based on the phone – some phones have a requirement of the Data packages). For unlimited text messaging, that will be another $20.00 per month. GPS will be an additional $9.99 per month. Oh, and if you’d like detailed billing so you can see what phone numbers where called, when, and for how long, that will be an extra $1.99 per month.
So, to summarize all of this.
Sprint gives you everything you need, for $99.99 per month, no extra charges for anything.
Verizon will give you everything you need, but for almost $40.00 more, at $139.99 per month.
T-Mobile can cost you up to $134.98 per month for everything.
And AT&T will cost you a whopping $161.97 to get all the bells and whistles.
Now, some people may not mind the extra charges to get possibly better service and whatnot. But if you are looking for the overall least expensive option, Sprint is the way to go.
